Jeremiah Darby Hushen, Sr.
DNA tests and family trees say that our branch of the family is related to Jeremiah Darby Hushen, Sr. He could even be a great-great-great-grandfather, but I've yet to prove that with documentary evidence. Here's what I can prove, based on early research done by new cousins BK and BH789:
• In the 1870 US Census for PA, Darby Husher (Hushen) lives in Upper Merion, Montgomer County, PA. He is 80, born 1790, retired laborer, cannot write, born Ireland, parents of foreign birth, not a citizen. Also in the household are Mary, 63, born 1807, keeping house; Martin, 18, born Ireland, at home; Thomas, 16, born Ireland; farm laborer; John, 4, born NJ. Nearby are son Darby with wife Margaret and family.

• The death certificate of his son, another Jeremiah Darby Hushen, Jr., says that father was "Jeremia Hushen" born in Ireland and his (Sr.'s) wife's name was Mary. This tallies with the entry in the 1870 Census.

• Darby, Sr., entered the USA after the birth of his son Thomas, 16, and before the birth of son (grandson?) John, who was born in NH. So Darby probably entered the US between 1854 and 1868. Source: 1870 Census.
* It looks like Darby, Sr., died in June 1876, and was buried in the old St. Matthew Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Montgomery County, PA. Most likely correct as there's a Mary Hushen, died 1894 in the same plot, and we know that Darby's wife was Mary. This link to the Conshohocken Recorder death announcement proves that it's her and him:

Also in this cemetery are Patrick Hushen, born 1823 in Ireland, died July 29, 1918; and Katherine C. Hushen (daughter of Timothy and Ellen Hushen). But I digress.
• Darby was Roman Catholic, as proved by his burial record.

• While it can't be proven with absolute certainty, it's likely that this is our Darby Hushen listed in 1845's Griffith's Evaluation in Cappagh, Kilgerill, Kinconnel, County Galway, Ireland. Dated 12 May 1845.

What's particularly interesting to me is that there is a William Hushen next door to Darby.

• Darby and Mary had several children. From the 1870 Census we know they had Darby, Jr., Martin, and Thomas. Patrick Hushen's death certificate is on file in PA. It says he was born Ireland 1823, died 1918, informant John Derr. Since Derr was his niece's husband, and since he is buried in the same cemetery as Darby and Mary, it's likely that he was their child.
